Canine Veterinary Physiotherapy
Canine physiotherapy is recognised in the prevention, cure and rehabilitation of many conditions. Following soft tissue injuries, fractures, trauma or surgery, physiotherapy is used to accelerate the rehabilitation process and restore function. Canine physiotherapy aims to restore movement, strength and function. Reduce pain, swelling and inflammation and improve quality of life.
Physiotherapy is usually best commenced soon after injury or surgery. This doesn’t mean strenuous exercise! Gentle passive movements and hands on techniques to reduce pain, stimulate healing and improve circulation are essential, as well as reducing stiffness and treating muscle atrophy.
It’s vitally important to teach owners some basic physiotherapy techniques such as massage and exercises to do a home on a regular basis, as this really helps in the speed of recovery.

Physiotherapy rehabilitation
On the first visit, a full assessment will be carried out, the dog will receive treatment, and a rehabilitation plan will be given specific to your dogs needs. Follow up appointment will be made as necessary. The number of sessions required will depend on the nature and severity of the condition.
All patients require a vet referral prior to their first appointment. Regular contact with the vet and other professionals involved ensures continuity of care and specific rehabilitation requirements are met.
Cost
Physiotherapy can often be claimed on pet insurance. The first appointment consists of an initial assessment, treatment and teaching of a specific home programme of massage, stretches and rehabilitation exercises tailored to each dog, this is 30 mins at the vets and 45 mins for home visits and my clinic.
Appointments are available at Moorview Referrals, Cramlington or Bridge Referrals Boldon within the Northeast, or in Welbury, Northallerton. I do a small number of home visits when required in and around the North East and North Yorkshire. Sessions are from £40
